FAQs

How do I join Note-Orious?

If you would like to join the choir, please use the contact form on the Join Us page. At times we operate a waiting list but please get in touch and we'll let you know how quickly you can join!

Do I have to be a brilliant singer?

Not at all. If you can carry a tune and enjoy singing, you will fit right in. The emphasis at Note-Orious is on enthusiasm, enjoyment and community.

Is there an audition process?

No! Get in touch and if the choir has places available (see above) then just come along to a rehearsal.

How much does it cost?

The choir is not run for profit, and charges a subscription purely to cover its running costs. Each session currently costs around £5 (with roughly 12-15 sessions each term). You can come along and try out a choir session for free, and if you then decide you would like to join, you will be asked to set up a Standing Order to pay choir subscriptions monthly.

What sort of stuff does Note-Orious sing?

A mix of pop, rock and musical theatre songs. We have sung songs by Lady Gaga, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fleet Foxes, Stevie Wonder, Wheatus, The Kinks, Harry Styles, The Cure and Gotye. All our songs are suggested by members of the choir.

What happens at rehearsals?

First, there's a quick vocal warm-up, then we start work on one of the songs we're learning. We normally concentrate on two songs at each rehearsal, and finish by singing through a piece that's already in our repertoire. There's a ten-minute break in the middle of the session.

Where do you rehearse?

We rehearse in the Dulwich Hamlet Football Club Bar, Champion Hill Stadium, Edgar Kail Way, London, SE22 8BD.

What do I need to bring with me?

Your music, a pencil and some water.

What is my subscription fee used for?

The choir's subs primarily pay for the hire of the rehearsal space, the musical director's and accompanist's fees and sheet music. The choir has a treasurer who files an annual financial report at the annual AGM if you want to see a further breakdown.

How is the choir's repertoire decided?

How can I join the committee?

The committee is elected each year at the AGM. All positions are currently filled but you will have a chance to stand for any of the roles (chairperson, choir manager, social secretary, treasurer, membership secretary and communications manager) at the next AGM held at the end of January.
